Jared

JARED

A little about me:
Jared is the head coach and owner of CrossFit Route 1. As a college athlete at Endicott College, Jared played varsity soccer and was appointed captain his senior year. He also played lacrosse at the collegiate level.
After graduation, Jared continued to play soccer at the semi-professional level. It was during this time Jared began coaching. Jared coached at the high school level for 10 years.

He has coached Pingree High School Boy’s soccer, women’s basketball and boys lacrosse. He then went on to be an assistant lacrosse coach for six years at St. John’s Prep in Danvers.

What does CrossFit mean to me:
CrossFit to me is camaraderie, friendships, and fitness. It also allows me to teach and lead the basic fundamentals that Greg Glassman has laid out. Being able to help people achieve goals they never thought possible is what drives me every day.

Favorite moment as a coach or athlete:
Seeing people working hard to achieve their goals day in and day out. I love that every day I walk into the gym I get to help others realize their own abilities and reach goals they didn’t think were attainable.

Certifications:
CrossFit Level 2 Trainer (CF-L2)
CF Coaches Prep, CrossFit Oly Lifting, CrossFit Movement and Mobility, Certified in Kettlebells (KBC)

Chris

CHRIS

A little about me:
Fitness has always been a big part of my life from an early age, and in college I was into kickboxing and Judo. I’ve been a Firefighter for over 20 yrs and I’m a fitness instructor at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy. Teaching and fitness have always been a passion of mine, and I’ve been fortunate to be able to combine both passions at the Fire Academy and at Crossfit.

Interests:
Fitness, nutrition, traveling, hiking and the National Parks

What does CrossFit mean to me:
Crossfit is the 1-2 hours/day that I get to work on me, it’s what keeps the balance in my life especially with a very busy work schedule. Crossfit is how I ensure that I’m always physically prepared to do my job and live a physically active lifestyle.

Favorite moment as a coach or athlete:
It’s always amazing when we accomplish things we never thought were possible or push ourselves beyond what we thought was our limit and realizing that limits are really just our mind telling us we can’t. Just as rewarding as succeeding ourselves, is seeing and being part of someone else succeeding in their goals.

Zach

ZACK

A little about me:
I was born in 1991 right here in Massachusetts in a hospital just a couple of miles from the home I spent the first 20 years of my life. Staying close to home has given me a strong appreciation for a close knit community and the loyalty that comes along with it. I’ve been an active person my entire life, choosing to spend most of my time outside playing sports or doing anything else that is challenging and fun.

Interests:
I like to learn new things, most often related to health & wellness, but I’m open to absorbing any information I can. I spend a lot of time outside; fishing, hunting and camping. I love to play sports and being competitive. I spend most of my indoor time creating art, listening to music, and buying too many sneakers.

What does CrossFit mean to me:
To me, Crossfit is most about its community. Joining Crossfit Route 1 introduced me to a group of people that I am sure I would never have crossed paths with otherwise and people that I certainly cannot imagine my life without.

Favorite moment as a coach or athlete:

Rather than trying to pinpoint one specific moment I instead have a favorite pattern. I love witnessing members transition from the skeptical, uneasy and nervous face in a prep course to the regular class attendee that fits into the RTE1 family. I like watching the 60 minutes spent in the gym become their favorite hour of the day.

AURORA

A little about me:
I started CrossFit in August of 2015, not on purpose… one of my Professors from college had asked me to come to this “fitness event” and be his partner for the day. I had no idea what he was talking about until he said he’d give me school credit for the hours that I was there and I was sold. Come to find out my first day of CrossFit was an outdoor partner competition and I got absolutely crushed; after that I signed up for classes and got a little bit better everyday.  My athletic background in most recent years is competitive cheerleading; I competed on an elite international team from 2013-2018 and had some really amazing competitive experiences. I have an undergraduate degree in Clinical Exercise Science and am wrapping up course work for a Master of Science in Human Health and Performance. Currently I am a Professor in the Sport & Movement Science Department at Salem State University, run fitness programs for a organization that supports at-risk youth on the North Shore and Coach Youth Fitness here at CrossFit Route 1!

Interests:
(In no particular order.. besides the first one) are my nieces, family, friends, being outside in nice weather, fitness & food.

What does CrossFit mean to me:
What happened after my first CrossFit experience was 100% one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. The past four years I’ve had not only great physical health as a result but fitness has turned into one of the best outlets I can give myself daily for managing external stress from school, work and life.

Favorite moment as a coach or athlete was the first day I walked in. To say this place and the people here stole my heart doesn’t even do it full justice. The best hours of my day are the result of seeing all the people here and witnessing everyone’s constant effort of showing up and bettering themselves.

A little about me:
I was never one who took “fitnessing” seriously during my adolescence or through college. It wasn’t until March of 2014 when I took up running to start getting healthy that I really buckled down and took control of my health. After experiencing the proverbial “runner’s high” I progressively started running longer and longer distances, working up from 5K’s, to 10K’s, a half-marathon in September of that year, and eventually the crazy idea of running a marathon (Boston at that) in April of 2015. It was during those months of training for the Boston Marathon that I was introduced to CrossFit. I was initially apprehensive, but my feelings quickly changed and I haven’t looked back since then.

Interests:
Outside of CrossFit I enjoy running, hacking away on the golf course, and enjoy a good craft beer (or two).

What does CrossFit mean to me:
To me CrossFit is the ability for an individual to take control of their health and well-being, all while becoming a part of a community driven to be the best that they can be. You can find numerous quotes that all emphasize the same point, but essentially you drive yourself to be better than you were yesterday. That’s what CrossFit allows us to do, be better versions of ourselves, physically, emotionally, and socially.

Favorite moment as a coach or athlete:
There a too many moments to pick just one. Whether it is a 5:30 AM class when you’re struggling to finish a grueling workout and your classmates gather around you to cheer you and push you to finish. Or that time in the Opens where you do something you didn’t think you’d be able to do. Those small moments over the course of the year make up many of my favorite moments.
